Senior Director, TB Portfolio
Alexander Trusov, M.D., Ph.D. is Project HOPE’s Senior Director, Tuberculosis (TB) Portfolio. Alex is a clinical and public health lung and TB specialist, responsible for developing and implementing all Project HOPE TB programs. He is based at our Millwood, Virginia headquarters but travels frequently to Project HOPE TB program sites in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa. Alex has directed health projects in former Soviet Union republics and Africa for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in TB epidemiology and programmatic management, including multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and TB in penitentiary systems.
Alex initially joined Project HOPE in 2001, when he spent four years implementing a TB program in the prison system in Kazakhstan and TB programs in Russia in the civilian and prison sectors. He returned to Project HOPE in 2010 for his current position. Prior to joining Project HOPE, Alex spent two years as a clinical instructor and manager of Harvard University’s international TB program in Russia. Earlier in his career, he was Assistant Professor of Pulmonary and Tuberculosis Diseases at Sechenov’s Moscow Medical Academy in Moscow, Russia. Alex earned his M.D. from Moscow Medical Institute and his Ph.D. in lung diseases from Moscow Medical Academy. A United States citizen, Alex is a native Russian speaker and fluent in English.
