Senior Regional Director for China
Qian Geng is Project HOPE’s Senior Regional Director for China. Based in our Millwood, Virginia headquarters, she is responsible for leading our China team in developing and implementing strategies for growing Project HOPE’s portfolio of programs in China in the areas of health systems strengthening, women’s and children’s health, noncommunicable disease management and prevention and disaster relief. Qian has more than 25 years of experience in developing, managing and evaluating global health programs, building coalitions among agencies/ministries and program monitoring and evaluation.
Prior to joining Project HOPE in 2006, Qian was Program Director at PATH, where she set up PATH’s project office in China and developed China program strategies. Earlier in her career, Qian was the National Project Director for a UNFPA-funded nationwide family planning training project in China. She was a technical expert for a WHO/WPRO regional consultation on adolescent health strategy development. She also previously served as a technical advisor for the United Nations Development Program in creating a HIV/AIDS and development program in four Northeast Asian countries – China, Mongolia, South Korea and North Korea.
Qian earned a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.Ed. in Science Education from Beijing Normal University. She also holds a M.Ed. in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Nebraska. Qian is a native speaker of Chinese and is fluent in English.
