Project HOPE Alumni Celebrate 50 Years of HOPE with Alumni Reunion in Washington, D.C.
Nearly 190 Project HOPE
alumni from the
SS HOPE’s 11 missions as well as HOPE volunteers from current
HOPE/Navy missions and other alumni from HOPE's health education and humanitarian assistance programs gathered to celebrate HOPE’s 50
th anniversary with an alumni reunion held at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia October 9 through October 11, 2008. The alumni enjoyed a weekend of rekindling friendships and remembering their life changing experiences of bringing health and hope to those in need around the world. Many brought scrapbooks, photo albums and videos of their voyages to share. Part of the weekend festivities included a visit to the Project HOPE headquarters in Millwood, Virginia and a Saturday evening banquet attended by Project HOPE President and CEO,
John P. Howe III, M.D. and Mrs. Helen Walsh, wife of Project HOPE founder Dr. William B. Walsh, and their sons, Bill, John and Tom. “The reunion was a grand celebration!” said Eunice Childs, Secretary of the Alumni Association and a Project HOPE volunteer on board the SS HOPE.
