Nearly 50 years ago, Project HOPE was founded on the willingness of doctors, nurses and other medical volunteers to travel the globe on a floating hospital ship, the SS HOPE, to provide medical care, health education and humanitarian assistance to people in need. While we now operate land-based programs in more than 35 countries, Project HOPE, in a unique partnership with the U.S. Navy, has again returned to sending medical volunteers on board ships around the world to provide medical assistance, long reaching health education programs, vaccinations and humanitarian assistance. From our work with tsunami-relief in Southeast Asia, to Hurricane Katrina relief in the Gulf States, to health education and humanitarian assistance missions to Latin America and West Central Africa, the generosity and support of volunteers has been truly inspiring. This generosity and support has enabled Project HOPE to respond not only to immediate natural disasters, but change people’s lives for the long-term with health education and life-saving vaccinations. Our volunteer teams are comprised of RNs, MDs, and other health care providers who work side by side with U.S. Navy medical staff. As a result of this work, Project HOPE often implements land-based programs in the countries visited to provide long-term health care and reform.
The need for volunteers for disaster relief comes abruptly and we need to respond rapidly. If you are interested in volunteering with Project HOPE, either to join disaster relief teams or to assist with our ongoing programs, we invite you to register with us now so you will be in our volunteer database when a need arises.
Once a need does arrive, we search our database, provide our registered volunteers with updates to our staffing needs, and post opportunities on the website for new applicants. Please note that the best way for us to be able to match skills and interests is to make sure your on-line registration includes an up to date resume describing your work experience.
