November 27,  marks the first annual #GivingTuesday™! It is a day for families, communities, charities and businesses to kick off the holiday giving season by joining together in charitable activities and fundraising. I am so pleased that Project HOPE employees, volunteers and supporters are enthusiastically embracing this very special day.

#GivingTuesday began as a simple idea. Following our day of thanksgiving, we have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.  Why shouldn’t we have a day for giving back?  The national #GivingTuesday campaign, led by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the UN Foundation, has now grown to over 2,000 partner organizations in all 50 states. Project HOPE is proud to be one of those partners in this inaugural year of the campaign.

To celebrate our first ever #GivingTuesday, Project HOPE employees are being asked to donate to Project HOPE. We are anticipating a 100% participation rate among our staff.  The motivation behind this effort is to have all of us involved in the spirit of giving.

Young Philanthropist Taylor Vaughn Supports HOPE Online

Other members of our Project HOPE family are giving back in their own ways today. Our youngest donor, Taylor Vaughn, is reaching out to children’s toy companies, book publishers and entertainment companies requesting cash and in-kind donations for the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center.  She will also be spreading the word about the SCMC and the lifesaving heart surgeries that the hospital performs -- to her sixth grade class and Girl Scout troop.

I am so grateful to the staff of Project HOPE, Taylor and all of our supporters on this first #GivingTuesday.

Happy Holidays,
