Former Senior Advisor for Infectious Diseases
Dr. Christine Whalen was Project HOPE’s Senior Advisor for Infectious Diseases from 2012 to 2014. Her experience as a public health specialist spans more than two decades, with expertise in TB, TB/HIV, malaria and other vector-borne diseases.Prior to joining Project HOPE, Dr. Whalen was the Senior Coordinator of UNICEF’s first endeavors as Principle Recipient for the Global Fund award to North Korea in TB and Malaria.She also helped to establish numerous programs across Latin America and Asia for Management Sciences for Health and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). While at CIDA, Dr. Whalen represented the Agency in the formulation of the Global Drug Facility (GDF) now housed at WHO and was later appointed and served as a technical advisor to the GDF for six years.She established her own nonprofit consulting firm, Health Bridge Consulting International, where she provided technical support to numerous public and private sector organizations in the development, implementation and assessment of health programs.She earned her M.D. from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala.She also holds a certificate from the Canadian Field Epidemiology Training Program in Canada and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Community Medicine.
