Five Medtronic Philanthropy Global Innovation Fellows were named as project HOPE's 2014 Global Corporate Volunteer of the year for their work in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam to conducting a health care assessment.
The goal of the assessment was to identify solutions that would improve health care access and quality for the local people.
The Medtronic team met with individuals from all levels of the health care system including officials from the Department of Health, Quang Tri Medical School, doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and more.
The team observed that patients have not consistently received the highest quality of primary care at due to inconsistent levels of health care staff capabilities and a lack of basic medical equipment.
A solution was proposed to improve care by providing a model that standardizes infrastructure, training and equipment.
“The proposal reflects the real issues we are facing in Quang Tri,” said the Vice-Director of Quang Tri Department of Health. “The Medtronic team listened carefully to the locals for many, many hours. Then they came up with this brilliant idea with feasible and impactful design.”
By developing these models, the Quang Tri Healthcare Team will be able to improve access, treatment, and sustainability.
