Dr. Michael D. Maves

Dr. Michael D. Maves joins Project HOPE as its Executive Vice President in a new chapter of a successful career that has taken him through the upper echelons of management, medicine and the political world.

“Dr. Maves’ distinguished background as a physician, academician and executive will help strengthen HOPE’s senior management team to support HOPE’s five global health practice areas and excel in program and business operations as we enhance HOPE’s worldwide presence,” said John P. Howe III, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Project HOPE

Dr. Maves is tasked with leading HOPE’s multiple teams in program management, marketing and business development, and building relationships with key stakeholders in government, the health community and the private sector to achieve HOPE’s goals.

“I am very excited to be part of the Project HOPE family and to contribute to the future of this great organization. The mission and values of HOPE are a visible way for me to take my life’s experience and put it to work for a greater good,” said Dr. Maves.

The former Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Medical Association (AMA) oversaw operations in support of 225,000 physician members across the nation, and improved the profitability, operational efficiency and brand visibility of the AMA and its business units.

Dr. Maves skillfully nurtured vital relationships with Congressional leaders and enhanced the organization’s reputation, reach and effectiveness through formal outreach to new advocacy partners.  Since 2004, Dr. Maves has been recognized as one of the 50 most Powerful Physician Executives in the nation by Modern Healthcare.

An ear, nose and throat physician, Dr. Maves has a solid record of success in academic medicine, as Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Saint Louis University College of Medicine in Missouri.  He authored 65 peer-reviewed publications and 22 book chapters.
