Project HOPE re-registers as NGO in China

Project HOPE announced today that its Beijing and Shanghai representative offices were among the first group of foreign NGOs registered in China in accordance with a new law by the Ministry of Public Security aimed at ensuring the transparency and proper management of international NGOs and foundations in China.

The new law, known as the Management Act on Activities of Overseas Non-governmental Organizations within the Territory of People’s Republic of China, was issued on April 28, 2016 and became effective on January 1, 2017. The law requires all Overseas Non-governmental Organizations that work in China to be registered under Public Security Bureaus with relevant Chinese agencies as technical/business supervisors. Both Project HOPE Beijing Representative Office and Project HOPE Shanghai Representative Office received registration certificates in Beijing and Shanghai with technical/business supervisors of National Health and Family Planning Commission and Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission respectively.

“Project HOPE is honored to be among the first group of overseas NGOs to receive registration certificates from the Administrative Offices of Overseas NGOs in Beijing and Shanghai.  We look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration with the National Health and Family Planning Commission (formerly the Ministry of Health), Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission, and other local program partners to advance health care across the country,” said Qian Geng, Senior Regional Director, China and Japan.

Project HOPE has been working to improve the health of communities in China for more than 30 years through a strong partnership with the Ministry of Health to address needs and advance health professional training with the support of corporate partners.  China’s large population, diverse demography, and rapid economic development have had a major impact on the needs for and distribution of health care services.
