Project HOPE and Abbott Fund
Project HOPE and Abbott Fund received The American Chamber of Commerce 2010 CSR Partnership Award Honorable Mention for work in clinical pediatric nutrition at the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center.
Clinical pediatric nutrition is a newly developed medical specialty in China and little research or clinical education has been conducted to address childhood nutrition issues from a clinical practice perspective. To help improve the nutritional health of children in China, the global health care company Abbott, and its philanthropic foundation, the Abbott Fund, partnered with the Project HOPE and Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC) to establish the Abbott Fund Institute of Nutrition Science (AFINS) in July of 2007.
This collaborative partnership is working to improve clinical pediatric nutrition practices through initiating innovative research, developing nutrition support protocols and conducting community outreach to educate the public about healthy nutrition for children.
With an additional three year, $2.5 million grant from the Abbott Fund, these organizations will build on key lessons learned from AFINS first three years of operation to shed further light on the important issue of childhood nutrition.
