Beijing, China, January 18, 2011

Dr. Ji Qing-ying, Vice-Director of the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center (SCMC) and Director of the Social Worker Department was recently recognized with the “Top 10 Social Worker in China in 2010” award, a prestigious national recognition presented by the China Social Worker’s Association in Beijing.

During her tenure at SCMC, Dr. Ji participated in Project HOPE’s fellowship training for hospital development in 2001 at the St. Jude Children’s Medical Center and Project HOPE Education Center in the United States. She credits the learning opportunities provided by the Project HOPE fellowship program as instrumental in her understanding of hospital development.

Dr. Ji helped develop a fund at SCMC to help families with sick children afford the best medical treatment. She also started the Social Worker Department at SCMC in 2004, setting up a model for social worker clinical practice. From her leadership, the social work department in SCMC has become a student practice base for Hong Kong University, Fu Dan University and East China University of Science and Technology.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Project HOPE, on behalf myself and all the kids who have benefited from social work,” Dr. Ji says.
