As Project HOPE volunteers began to wrap-up the Continuing Promise health education and humanitarian assistance mission in El Salvador, they received a visit from Oscar, a little boy whose mother brought him in seeking treatment for his wandering eye. HOPE volunteers prepared the required admissions paperwork on Oscar, but could only hand it back

to his mother because it was too late to schedule the boy into the already full operating room schedule.

Learning the volunteers' hands were tied, Oscar's mother simply asked where the medical team was headed next. To their surprise, the first day the clinic opened in Chinandega, Nicaragua, Oscar and his mother showed up with the paperwork that she had been given in El Salvador.

Oscar's mother drove him across two countries just to see the Continuing Promise doctors. With that drive, Oscar's mother was able to get him the operation he needed and change the course of his life.
