Snapshot of HOPE

Dominican Republic, January 14, 2017
By: Yajaira GarcĂa Valdez

Yajaira García Valdez is a family and community medicine doctor supporting the new Haina Clinic for the Dominican Association of the Order of Malta. Her Snapshot of HOPE photo essay, Time to Care, concentrates on the important doctor-patient relationship.

What I love most about working for the clinic is that doctors have time to really care for patients and form relationships with mothers and their children that benefit everyone involved.

The maternal child health clinics operated by the Order of Malta and supported by Project HOPE offer the best treatments and health services for children and babies.  It is a place where low-income people can obtain expert quality health care for themselves and their children and where doctors really have time to form relationships with patients.

New mothers feel secure in knowing that their babies are receiving the best care and have the full attention of the doctors and nurses working at the clinic.

Babies also feel secure and safe when it comes time for their well-baby checkups.
