Snapshot of HOPE

Dominican Republic, January 17, 2017
By: Laura Lucia Jiménez Calderón

Laura Lucia Jiménez Calderón works as a strategic communications consultant for Project HOPE in the Dominican Republic. She holds a bachelors degree in Communications and also works at Digital 15, a local TV Station as a TV host. Her Snapshot of HOPE photo essay, Wait, shows the community atmosphere and positive peer support offered to mothers and families at the clinic, making the waiting time to be seen sometimes as important as the care itself.

Serving with love is the most powerful description we observe of the doctors who work tirelessly at the Order of Malta Clinic. While they of course comply with established medical protocols, they also cordially receive each mother and each child making the sure the wait is short and also pleasant.

Cesar Junior, despite visiting the doctor for reasons of respiratory congestion, does not hesitate to give us the best of his smiles.

Families sometimes travel 10 km to visit the clinic to ensure their children get the  routine checkups they need.

María Nieve exemplifies the welcoming clinic staff, wearing her uniform with pride and offering the best of her smiles to those who are visiting the clinic.
