Donate Now : Individual Planned Giving
Through effective planned giving, you can balance your personal financial goals and your charitable interests while possibly realizing significant tax benefits. Various types of planned gifts are possible, ranging from bequests to charitable trusts and gift annuities.
A bequest is one of the most meaningful legacies you can provide and will have a lasting impact. Your executors will be able to make sure your gift is fulfilled. To include a bequest to Project HOPE in your will, we suggest this simple statement:
"I give, devise, and bequeath to Project HOPE - The People-to-People Health Foundation, Inc. (commonly known as Project HOPE), at Millwood, Virginia 22646, the sum of ____ dollars (or ____% of my residual estate, otherwise describe the gift) for the general purposes and uses of the Foundation at the discretion of the Board of Directors."
Please note that our incorporated name is Project HOPE - The People-to-People Health Foundation, Inc. Project HOPE is a registered trademark and is the name by which we are most commonly known. Our federal ID number is 53-0242962.
You can remember Project HOPE in other financial instruments as well. You can designate Project HOPE as a contingent beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy, or you can donate outright a policy you no longer need. Check with your insurance agent to learn how. Or, you can name Project HOPE as a beneficiary of retirement, savings, or checking accounts and possibly avoid probate and estate taxes.
You can add Project HOPE to an existing charitable trust or establish a new charitable trust. Charitable Trusts are gift agreements that allow you to make a significant charitable gift while preserving economic security for yourself and others. Because Congress has sanctioned these gift agreements, tax savings are provided and often allow immediate and long-term tax benefits. Talk to your financial planner about these giving options.
Charitable gift annuities are vehicles that provide fixed payments for life. Your annuity could also provide meaningful tax benefits. First, a substantial portion of your annuity payment each year would be tax-free. In addition, you would receive an income tax deduction in the year you make your gift. The tax implications of a charitable gift annuity fluctuate slightly according to IRS interest rates in effect during the month and year your gift is made.
Meet a Project HOPE Donor Dr. Jon Tanja learned about Project HOPE’s charitable gift annuity program while attending a reunion of volunteers from the hospital ship SS HOPE and HOPE’s land-based programs. He is delighted with the benefits he has received from his gift (a 6.6% return for life and a substantial tax deduction). But most of all, he is pleased that his gift will help Project HOPE reach out to those in need for years to come.
“In following the work of HOPE since my two volunteer experiences, I am amazed at how HOPE always seems to know what the needs are around the world, and how to address those needs," Dr. Tanja said. "I am a frugal guy, and am also impressed at how efficiently and prudently HOPE uses donated funds. This gives me great confidence in the management of HOPE’s charitable gift annuity program as well.” READ MORE
