For more than 40 years, the Women’s Division for Project HOPE-Detroit and the Project HOPE League of Metropolitan Detroit have been raising funds and raising awareness for Project HOPE Programs. Read their stories.
One of the most significant ways you can help Project HOPE is by raising awareness of the health needs of children and families around the world.

MORE WAYS TO HELP...

In your book club, explore other cultures and read challenging life stories. Here are several good books:

  • Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard by Mawi Asgedom. In 1983, at age seven, the author and his family arrived in this country, having fled the Eritrean and Ethiopian conflict.
  • Angels in Africa: Portraits of Seven Extraordinary Women by Kimberley Sevcik (Author) and Beth O'Donnell (Photographer). This book documents seven African women working to overcome devastating problems in their communities.
  • Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan. In this fun novel, a group of tourists is off to Burma accompanied by a spirit. It is by turns a romance, an adventure story, a comedy, and a bit of an educational documentary.
  • Survival in the Killing Fields by Haing S. Ngor and Roger Warner. An eyewitness account of the real killing fields by an extraordinary survivor, this book is a reminder of the horrors of war - and a testament to the enduring human spirit.

Consider forming a Giving CircleGiving circles involve a group of friends who pool their charitable donations and decide together how to use the money to benefit the causes they care most about. Part of the joy of starting a giving circle is using your creativity and energy to make something unique. You and your fellow giving circle friends can decide where to give money and how to learn about international and community issues. It can be helpful to have some guidance and suggestions of possible ways to establish your circle.  Check out this useful website.

Party for a Cause. Another way to talk about HOPE and have fun while doing so is with HOPEfest. HOPEfest is a great reason to gather with friends, enjoy a meal and help raise awareness and funds for the life-saving work of Project HOPE.

We would love for you to host a party or ask a friend or family member to host an event. Some donors have had wine and cheese parties, others coffee and dessert, international foods, or even take-out pizza or Chinese. Everything you need is available at Project HOPE’s online party center – from invitations to international recipes and games. You can host any type of fundraising event – from a hike to a movie night.

You truly can play an invaluable role when you tell others about Project HOPE’s life-saving work. Click here for resources you can use.
