In the United Arab Emirates it is estimated that 20% of residents and 25% of nationals have diabetes and nearly 75% of those living with diabetes do not have it under control. It is also estimated that 40% of people living with diabetes in the United Arab Emirates are unaware that they have it.
Since 2016 Project HOPE, working with the collaboration and support of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Diabetes Society, has been implementing the Diabetes Empowerment and Education Program. The aim of the program is to improve the well-being of people in the United Arab Emirates living with or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Using a "Circle of Care" framework, the program seeks to improve the knowledge of health care providers about early detection and better control of type 2 diabetes, while educating patients and caregivers.
