TB Control in Southern Malawi – Due to a high prevalence of HIV infection, Malawi is facing a rapidly increasing rate of Tuberculosis, along with low treatment success rates and high mortality rates in TB patients. Working in close partnership with the National TB Control Programme, Project HOPE is addressing TB control and TB-HIV co-infection in the Mulanje and Phalombe Districts and expects to benefit over 383,000 people by strengthening TB services, increasing early care-seeking behavior at the community level, improving quality diagnosis and case management of TB and TB-HIV co-infection cases among health care workers, and improving the capacity of the Regional and District TB offices to manage TB and TB-HIV co-infection.

Village Health Banks – To address the fundamental reality that the majority of orphan care is provided by families, Project HOPE is advocating strengthening these family units through a group-based microcredit approach for increasing household income, integrated with education for vulnerable households and those caring for orphans.  Project HOPE’s Village Health Bank methodology has proven to help alleviate the economic burdens, strengthen the health knowledge of caregivers, and promote utilization of health services.
