The Americas and the Caribbean: El Salvador

A Project HOPE volunteer conducts  health education training while visiting El Salvador aboard the USNS Comfort.
 
The Humanitarian Assistance Program in El Salvador is a replication of Project HOPE’s successful targeted pharmaceutical donations for humanitarian relief purposes program in Nicaragua. Working with the Ministry of Health, Project HOPE will help distribute and track the use of up to six shipments per year of  much-needed medicines and medical supplies to Ministry of Health facilities throughout the country. The Humanitarian Assistance Program will benefit 369 health units and 30 national hospitals.
 
 
 
 

 
Timeline
1984 Project HOPE awarded USAID cooperative agreement August 2, 1984 for El Salvador program for displaced and resettled persons.
1987 Project HOPE and El Salvador work jointly on USAID grant to provide treatment for war related injuries.
1989

Project HOPE completes final transfer of displaced persons program in El Salvador to the Ministry of Health.

2001

Project HOPE conducts an HIV/AIDS Prevention Education program in El Salvador, as outreach from the Mexico HIV/AIDS program, funded by Levi Strauss.

2007

Project HOPE medical volunteers on board the USNS Comfort visit El Salvador. Program to deliver much needed medicines and medical supplies begins.
