As we gather to celebrate the beginning of a new year, I am inspired by your support of Project HOPE’s people and programs around the world.

As we gather to celebrate the beginning of a new year, I am inspired by your support of Project HOPE’s people and programs around the world. Together, we are healing the sick and, at the same time, teaching others to provide health care in the remotest of locations. Your support has made all the difference. You have helped ship vital medicines and supplies, reduce the risk of chronic disease and bring volunteers to those recovering from natural disasters.
Through your compassion and generosity, HOPE has improved the diagnosis and treatment of debilitating illnesses, rebuilt facilities and stocked clinics with lifesaving medicines. We have saved countless lives through education, prevention and quality care.
In Tapaz, on Panay Island in the Philippines, Project HOPE volunteers, including those from our longtime partner, the Massachusetts General Hospital, will ring in the New Year with meaningful resolve, as they continue to respond to the after effects of Typhoon Haiyan.
To date, your generosity has helped deliver:
- 46 HOPE volunteers, including physicians and nurses
- 104 surgeries
- 1,363 education contacts
- 2,591 patients treated
- $2.3 million in needed medicines and supplies
And more help is on the way. With additional volunteers and further shipments of donations containing critical equipment and medicines, we will continue in our support of post-disaster recovery efforts.
Your support inspires our work each day in 35 countries, including the Philippines. Our slideshow is just a small way of saying thank you, and sharing the many triumphs, large and small, which we are making possible for so many vulnerable men, women and children.
As we head into 2014, I am very taken with the words of Goran Persson, the former Prime Minister of Sweden: “Let our New Year’s resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.” This is in keeping with the words of our volunteers on Panay Island as well:
