Bringing Noncommunicable Disease Training to Remote Areas of Maharashtra

We’re thrilled to be training Indian government health workers at the Ministry of Health in Maharashtra to help them become more effective at tackling the rising trend of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in the state.  Thanks to our partner, Sanofi, we are training and motivating staff in the district hospital in Nandurbar and at NCD clinics in the region to reach out to teach people about the risk of diabetes, hypertension and other NCDs.  The clinics here are keen to grasp Project HOPE’s training strategy which helps health workers identify each patient’s individual circumstances. Innovative training methods included poster displays of food pyramids and basic physiology, and NCD staff participated in interactive games, group activities and discussions. We’re proud that the NCD clinics mastered the following key elements of our program:

• Basic knowledge and new counseling approaches for the general community on diabetes, hypertension and cancer
• Learning HOPE’s methodology to train NCD staff of the state government of Maharashtra on the basics of diabetes, hypertension and cancer
• Effectively communicate the need for the community to be screened for NCDs and adhere to treatment

Maharashtra’s health workers successfully completed eight initial trainings in the most remote and underserved districts of the state.
