Celebrate Health Care Superheroes
When we needed them most, they answered the call. Now you can, too.
Health care workers have sacrificed all year in the fight against COVID-19. Now is your chance to give back by supporting Project HOPE’s critical work around the world.
Project HOPE is delivering protective equipment, training, and mental health support to health care workers on the front lines of COVID-19.
This year alone, Project HOPE has delivered more than 11 million pieces of PPE, trained over 83,000 frontline personnel, and deployed expert medical volunteers to help fight the greatest public health crisis of our lives.
But our work is not done. The world’s health care workers have never needed our support more than they do now.
Join us in thanking and honoring #HealthCareHeroes by sharing their stories, donating in their honor, and spreading the word.
Stories From The Front Lines
The fight against COVID-19 is filled with unsung heroes. Meet some of the men and women helping stem the tide of COVID-19 in Navajo Nation.

Meet Lisa
Nurse Lisa Olsen deployed as a Project HOPE volunteer to provide surge staffing in Harris Health System in Houston, Texas.
“Tonight, just when I feel as if I don’t have the energy to pull one more gown over my head, a voice on the intercom overhead says, ‘We have successfully discharged another COVID patient.’ … It’s the perfect motivation to keep moving.”
Meet Angella
Angella is a trusted nurse and mentor to new mothers at Bo District Hospital in Sierra Leone. She helps premature and low-weight babies survive the first, and most dangerous, days of life.
Training health care workers like Angella is at the heart of HOPE’s mission. Around the world, we work to empower nurses and midwives with the training and tools they need to save lives.

Meet Mary
Mary Sebert deployed as a nurse to provide surge support in the hard-hit Navajo Nation in Arizona.
“Working with the Chinle staff and the patients was an extremely positive cultural experience for me. I saw compassion and kindness — among each other, and among the volunteers working in the hospital. It heightened the desire in me to see all of America striving for a more connected, respectful society.”

Meet Dr. Tekleab Zaid
In Ethiopia, Project HOPE is responding to COVID-19 in the hardest-hit parts of the country.
“One thing people may not realize about Ethiopia is that it’s growing in many dimensions and has seen many national achievements … I’m motivated by the opportunity to create change by combining development work with local capacity.”

Ensuring Access to Health Care
But these systemic problems existed long before COVID-19, and go much deeper. At least half the world’s population cannot access the health care they need.
It’s an emergency that threatens the lives of untold millions suffering from disease, disaster, or displacement. But for women like Musu, simply becoming a mother is a matter of life or death. Sierra Leone is the most dangerous place on earth to have a baby. One in every 17 women dies during pregnancy or childbirth, and there is only one doctor for every 20,000 people. But thanks to the work you help support, Musu’s most recent delivery was her safest — and most joyful — yet.
That’s due in part to Kangaroo Mother Care, a method that places the baby skin-to-skin on the mother’s chest, wrapping the tiny infant securely to its mother for warmth. In places where resources are limited, a simple baby wrap can be a lifesaver.
So can skilled, trained health care workers. Thanks to Project HOPE’s work at Bo District Hospital, Musu also benefited from the expertise of nurses like Angella and doctors like Joy — health worker heroes who are learning the skills that save lives, thanks to your support.

How You Can Help
Being a hero isn’t about the label — it’s about the action. You can honor their sacrifice, recognize their courage, and donate or help raise money to equip them with the skills and support they need around the world.
In places like Sierra Leone and Beirut, but also hard-hit cities in the U.S., our work is only possible because of the support you provide. You can give back by giving HOPE — and helping transform the health and well-being of people around the world.
