Project HOPE is pleased to announce the appointment of Rabih Torbay, a global health expert and leader in international development and humanitarian relief, as its new President.
Reporting to the CEO, Mr. Torbay, who has successfully managed global health programs benefitting millions of people in some of the world’s most challenging environments, will oversee the day-to-day operations of Project HOPE’s Global Health, Development and Communications departments.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Rabih to Project HOPE as a member of our senior leadership team. He’s a highly accomplished and strategic leader who will further advance our ability to save the lives of children and families in the most underserved communities around the world,” said Tom Kenyon, M.D., M. P. H., CEO of Project HOPE. “His proven experience will play a key role in advancing our international development strategy and maximizing the impact of our global health teams worldwide.”
Mr. Torbay previously served as Senior Vice President of International Operations at International Medical Corps, leading all global programs and a staff of 10,000 in 37 countries. Mr. Torbay was instrumental in growing IMC to a globally recognized leader in emergency response and public health with annual revenue of over $400 million. Additionally, IMC generated $95 million in global health programming under Mr. Torbay’s leadership. During his 17-year tenure at IMC, Mr. Torbay worked hand-in-hand with local governments, health officials, and health care providers to create and expand programs to advance health care solutions in several leadership positions.
Mr. Torbay has also served as a policy advisor to members of Congress, the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Special Representative to the UN on sensitive issues including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Lebanon. He also advised the world body on the West Africa Ebola response – one of the most serious public health challenges in recent years.
“I am excited to join Project HOPE and building upon the successes of its talented global team,” said Mr. Torbay. “The world is facing unprecedented global health challenges, and I look forward to working collaboratively with our staff, partners and volunteers to expand and develop innovative programs that will have an even greater impact for those in greatest need of help.”
