HELP THE HELPERS

Project HOPE is standing with health care workers on the front lines during Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s #HelpTheHelpers transform the stigma of shame into mental health empowerment and reimagine mental health resilience in the hardest-hit regions of the world.

When one person heals, we all heal. For that reason, let’s join forces to raise our voices on behalf of those who have not been able to advocate for their mental health. Let’s end the silence together and normalize the idea that mental health care is not nice to have — it’s essential.

Join the conversation on social media to #HelpTheHelpers and prioritize mental health care all month long.

Our World’s Helpers Are Hardest Hit

Our global mental health crisis shows no signs of stopping. Nearly 1 billion people around the world carry the hidden health costs of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other serious mental health conditions, with little to no treatment.

Beyond the lack of resources and trained mental health workers, the social stigma and shame surrounding mental health are often the greatest barriers to care. And health workers are among the hardest hit by mental health issues, with jobs that force them to face scenarios unfathomable to most people, affecting even the strongest and most resilient. Health care workers are disproportionately affected by anxiety, depression, burnout, insomnia and PTSD — a fact that has been further exacerbated by COVID-19.

With stressors from this past year continuing to mount on all sides — from a pandemic to natural catastrophes to humanitarian crises — we must reimagine a sustainable solution that goes beyond physical health.

Quality mental health support must be top of mind — not simply an afterthought.

The Wounds of Stigma Run Deep

Helping the Helpers on the Front Lines

All month long, Project HOPE is highlighting the importance of ending the silence around mental health stigma, expanding mental health care, and building a world where everyone has the support they need to protect their whole health.

How can each of us do our part to #HelpTheHelpers? It takes all of us to create a culture that normalizes speaking out against mental health stigma and speaking up for the treatment and care we all deserve. By lifting the veil of mental illness, we can better support those who are hardest hit and subsequently the communities they serve. Our collective potential for whole health rests on every voice in the room.

Let’s become the ones who create that culture, together.
