    December 6, 2016 – Health AffairsCountries around the world are striving to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic by focusing on the “90-90-90 targets” of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. By 2020, 90 percent of people living with HIV will know their HIV status, 90 percent of those diagnosed with HIV will be on treatment, and 90 percent of those treated will have effective viral suppression.

    October 11, 2016 – The Winchester StarProject HOPE, headquartered in Millwood, reports its disaster relief team is in Haiti, addressing the needs of people affected by Hurricane Matthew.According to its website, Project HOPE is deploying medical volunteers to help prevent the spread of cholera and other diseases that are on the rise.
  • International Conference on Integrated Tuberculosis Control The International Conference on Integrated Tuberculosis Control (the “Conference”) will be held on September 26 and 27, 2016 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the participation of the Republic of Kazakhstan State Secretary — Gulshara Abdykalikova — and the Republic of Kazakhstan Minister of Health and Social Development — Tamara Duisenova.

    April 19, 2016 – WHAG – Your4State.comProject HOPE recently created what’s called a cold chain facility in Haiti, the only one of its kind in the northern part of the country. The facility is helping more people get access to much needed medicines and vaccines.
  • Nonprofits Diabetes Program Proving Successful
    April 19, 2016 – WHAG – Your4State.comAccording to the International Diabetes Federation, India has the second largest population living with diabetes in the world, second only to China. Project UDAY, a Project HOPE program, tries to offset this through more advanced training.

But the White House has been forced to use Ebola funds to fight a new threat – the Zika virus now spreading rapidly across the Americas. Congress has yet to vote on funding to fight Zika – its members left for spring break without a vote – forcing the Administration to transfer $500 million in remaining Ebola funds to the Zika response. It is a gamble the White House should not have to make.

    March 1, 2016 – USAIDAcross Tajikistan’s Rasht Valley, and in the Dangara, Temurmalik, Baldzhu-van and Farkhor districts, a new, patient-centered approach (PCA) to outpa-tient tuberculosis (TB) and multidrug resistant (MDR) TB was initiated in 2013 by USAID programs. An approach to care that reflects individual patient needs and values, PCA is critical to effective TB control; however, imple-menting it in practice can be challenging. Therefore, the engagement of regional and local authorities (khukumats and jamoats) in providing social and financial support to TB patients is vital to the program’s success.
    March 1, 2016 – USAIDDr. Kahramon is one of 12 laboratory specialists trained by the USAID TB Control Program to provide maintenance on the GeneXpert machines. Before the training, it could take weeks for a machine to be repaired, as the laboratories had to put in a request for maintenance to the National Reference Laboratory in Tashkent and wait for a technician to be available for an on-site visit to fix the machine. In the meantime, 12 patients a day waited for their test results.
