Medical Team Treats 1,494 During 3-day Operation

Project HOPE volunteers and the Pacific Partnership 2011 medical team treated 1494 people during its three-day operation at the 12 Outubro School medical site in Timor-Leste.
“It went really well at the site. We had a really good team,” says volunteer Bridget Binko, the head nurse for the site. “We saw a ton of patients and we were really efficient at moving the patients through to deliver the best medical care possible.”
Andrea Tanzella, a Project HOPE volunteer and pharmacy student also spent time at the medical site. “Being able to get out there and take the lead on handing out supplies was great. I thought it would be intimidating, providing medicine substitutions, but I had a very great team that helped me out,” says Tanzella.
Commander Peter Collins of the Royal Australian Navy, was the head officer at 12 Outubro School medical site. He had nothing but good things to say about Project HOPE’s third rotation of volunteers, commenting that they were fully integrated in all the functions.
“I think what impresses me the most about Project HOPE volunteers is that they give up their time to come along. They have participated in the Pacific Partnership mission in the past, and they will be here again. The level of professionalism the volunteers bring is high,” Commander Collins says.
