As program manager in Macedonia, Angel Jordanovski has witnessed firsthand the impact of Project HOPE’s programs. One of the most emotional moments Angel experienced happened during his involvement in completing a donation of medicine for Cystic Fibrosis intended for 25 children in Kosovo. Because the medicine is expensive and not available in the local market, parents there struggle to secure the monthly needs for their children.
“The first child that we visited was the smartest 10-year-old girl I have met,” recalls Angel. “She spoke perfect English and had the sense of humor of an adult. Her parents sold most of their property to provide the needed therapy for her and they have two more kids to feed. They were emotional and crying from the moment we entered because they knew why we were there.”
Angel remembers becoming emotional himself as the young girl smiled the whole time while she and her parents gratefully accepted the donated medicines needed to cover her therapy for the rest of the year. “You could see the smiles and HOPE behind the tears of the whole family. It was a reminder of why Project HOPE exists.”
Angel’s job also includes coordinating volunteer activities in Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania, including the Syrian refugee crisis in Macedonia. “I can definitely say that Project HOPE is one of the organizations that is giving the most impactful response to the European Refugee Crisis here in Macedonia,” says Angel. “Thanks to Project HOPE’s Field Scholarship Program, I had the experience to visit the U.S. and work with HOPE headquarters to talk about Project HOPE’s field activities in the transit centers in Macedonia. We all agreed that the experience and knowledge that we shared will be useful in every humanitarian crisis involving displaced people all around the world.”
