More than 100,000 Vaccinated for Measles in the Philippines
The vaccines were distributed to hospitals and clinics throughout the Philippines. Some of the locations that received the MMR II vaccine were Manila, Pasay City and the Central and Eastern Visayas region.
In 2014 Project HOPE shipped more than 110,000 doses of the MMR II vaccine (Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccine Live), which had generously been donated by one of our corporate partners to help combat a resurgence of measles in the country. The measles resurgence was due to the chaos wrought by Typhoon Haiyan (known locally as Typhoon Yolanda)
“The vaccine was requested by the Philippines Department of Health to support its nationwide campaign to prevent new outbreaks in certain areas of the country,” said Scott Crawford, Project HOPE’s Director, Humanitarian Assistance and Logistics.
The vaccines were distributed to hospitals and clinics throughout the Philippines. Some of the locations that received the MMR II vaccine were Manila, Pasay City and the Central and Eastern Visayas region.
Happily more than 110,000 patients – like the babies pictured here – were inoculated with the donated MMR II vaccines. Fortunately these individuals are now at a much lower risk of developing measles.
Also in 2014, Project HOPE delivered 48,000 pneumococcal vaccines to the Philippines. All of the vaccines were carefully monitored to make sure they were distributed to areas in need and that they would be used prior to their expiration dates.
