Meet Volunteer Faye Pyles

Faye Pyles is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a retired United States Navy Captain Nurse Corps officer.Faye is the consummate volunteer professional and has been a natural leader for many U.S. Navy Project HOPE partnerships missions, dating back to 2008. In addition to participating in the inaugural Africa Partnership Station mission to Ghana and Liberia in 2008, Faye then joined HOPE on the 2009 USNS Comfort hospital ship to Latin America, followed by the 2010 USNS Mercy mission to Southeast Asia.In 2011, Faye volunteered to be the HOPE Medical Director for the USNS Comfort mission back to the Americas.
“I have been fascinated and drawn to Project HOPE since I was a child growing up in Virginia. I saw the stories and pictures of people and their countries that I only could read about and dreamed of one day seeing,” says Faye.“Life events sent me on a variety of roads, but when I retired from the Navy, these roads brought me to Project HOPE and back to those dreams.”
As the senior volunteer team leader for Project HOPE, Faye graciously sacrifices three to four months annually to treat those in need of health care around the world, help train local health professionals and support teams of HOPE volunteers, sometimes numbering 25 or more.
“I have found my work with HOPE rewarding and exciting,” Faye says. “As my experience has grown, I am honored to help guide new volunteers in their initial adventures as well. Volunteering with Project HOPE has fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine, and I could not be prouder of my work with HOPE.”
When not volunteering, Faye resides in Norfolk, Virginia. You’ll be able to read more about Faye this summer as she travels to the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia onboard the USNS Mercy as part of the Pacific Partnership 2012.
Thank you for your service Faye!
