Project HOPE Condemns Bombing of Gaza Hospital

Statement from Project HOPE’s CEO & President, Rabih Torbay

My colleagues and I are horrified and heartbroken by the bomb that struck Anglican Hospital (also known as Al Ahli hospital) in Gaza City today that may have claimed the lives of over 500 people according to health authorities in Gaza. At the time of attack, the hospital was full of patients and health workers, as well as thousands of displaced Palestinians sheltering for safety on the hospital grounds.

Project HOPE strongly condemns any attack on civilians and health facilities. We call for the cessation of all hostilities, and that immediate humanitarian access is granted to aid organizations.

Like in so many hospitals across Gaza, health workers had been risking their lives to work around the clock with little to no supplies, medications, water, and electricity after refusing to evacuate and abandon their patients. Civilians, health facilities, and civilian infrastructure should never be targets.

We urge the international community to ensure that the millions of innocent civilians in Gaza who are facing a humanitarian emergency are protected from the violence and that immediate humanitarian access into Gaza is permitted to provide civilians with the aid they desperately need to survive.
