Project HOPE Statement on Mobile Device Attacks in Lebanon
The mass wireless device explosions taking place across Lebanon are pushing the country’s health system to the brink. Even before the attack, the country was suffering from a dire shortage of medications, medical equipment, and health workers, with hospitals shuttering due to financial strain. Now, with nearly 3,000 wounded and 12 dead – and continued attacks taking place today – the deeply strained health system has been inundated, compromising hospitals’ abilities to address future health needs, and intensifying the mental health needs for communities who were already struggling under the constant threat of conflict and displacement.
We ask all parties to restrain from additional escalations of violence as it could have disastrous consequences on the health and safety of innocent civilians across the region.
Project HOPE is working with local partners in Lebanon to identify the greatest health and humanitarian needs as we continue to monitor the situation.
