Partnership for Quality Medical Donations Names Project HOPE’s Patricia E. Bacuros Chair of the Board
The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) announced that Patricia E. Bacuros, Director of Gifts-in-Kind Development at Project HOPE, will serve as Chairperson of the organization’s Board of Directors beginning immediately through 2014.
The Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) announced that Patricia E. Bacuros, Director of Gifts-in-Kind Development at Project HOPE, will serve as Chairperson of the organization’s Board of Directors beginning immediately through 2014.
Established in 1996, PQMD is the only international nonprofit membership association for pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers and nongovernmental organizations dedicated to responsible medical donation standards and practice. “The demand for donated medicines and other resources for vulnerable communities across the globe is as great as ever,” said Ms. Bacuros. “I’m excited for this opportunity to ensure that PQMD’s donation standards and practices remain steadfast, and I look forward to nurturing successful collaborations between the health care firms that donate medical products and the humanitarian organizations that deliver and distribute these crucial resources to those in need.”
Ms. Bacuros has been with Project HOPE, a global health education and humanitarian organization, since 1996 and is a Founding Member of the PQMD.
At HOPE, Ms. Bacuros has led the organization’s efforts to secure donated medicines and medical supplies from the world’s leading health care companies. The donations have supported HOPE’s health system strengthening programs and humanitarian relief efforts.
Coordination is crucial to building sustainable health care programs in developing nations and in responding effectively to a country’s needs following a natural disaster or medical emergency. Most recently, the twenty-nine PQMD member companies and NGOs have been responding to the critical needs of those affected by Hurricane Sandy in both the United States and the Caribbean. Working with local hospitals, clinics, and shelters, PQMD members have provided donations of medicines, hygiene kits, blankets, nutritionals and and more to communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy in the U.S. In the Caribbean, PQMD members are working in Haiti to help storm victims and fight the threat of cholera in the region.
