Gifts that cost nothing now
Placing lifesaving power in the hands of people who can make a real difference is at the heart of what we do at Project HOPE. You can help us accomplish this without ever writing a check! Including us in your overall estate or financial plans not only helps us continue to empower local health care workers to save lives across the globe, but it can also provide you with tax benefits in return.
A gift from your will or trust
- To leave the majority of funds to your loved ones, name Project HOPE to receive a specific amount or percentage.
- To leave Project HOPE what’s left after loved ones are provided for, use a residuary bequest.
- To leave your estate to family and friends and specify what you wish to happen if they predecease you, use a contingent bequest. This is often used by spouses who stipulate that if the other spouse is not living, then the bequest specified for that spouse will go to Project HOPE.
To make a gift in your will or trust, or by beneficiary designation, please use the following suggested language: “I give [percent of my estate, or dollars, or description of asset] to Project HOPE, The People-to-People Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization located at 7500 Old Georgetown Road, Suite 600, Bethesda, MD 20814, Federal Tax ID #53-0242962, for its general use and purpose.”
Or, please contact us so that we may work with you and your attorney to craft language that meets your specific goals and needs.
A gift of retirement plan assets
If you designate Project HOPE as a beneficiary of your retirement plan you can:
- Leave other, less heavily taxed assets to your family.
- Change your beneficiaries at any time, retaining maximum flexibility.
- Take action without the expense of an attorney. Simply request a change of beneficiary form from your plan provider and include Project HOPE as a full or partial beneficiary or update your beneficiaries through your online account.
Because we are tax exempt, 100% of your gift will benefit Project HOPE.
Please designate The People-to-People Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization located at 7500 Old Georgetown Road, Suite 600, Bethesda, MD 20814, Federal Tax ID #53-0242962.
You can also use this information to name Project HOPE a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

Gifts that provide income
Receive Tax Savings AND Lifetime Income with a Gift to Project HOPE.
Right now, many Project HOPE supporters are looking for ways to deepen their commitment and impact. Establish a charitable gift annuity with Project HOPE today (you must be 65 or older when payments start) and you will receive annual income for as long as you live—at an attractive rate.
Charitable gift annuities
How Do Charitable Gift Annuities Work?
- You donate cash or securities worth $10,000 or more to Project HOPE and receive payments for life in return. Your gift will be used to support Project HOPE’s critical work providing lasting solutions to health problems with the mission of helping people to help themselves.
- Your payment rate is based on your age, and will never change, no matter how long you live or how the market fluctuates.
- Make your gift by December 31 and you may be able to reduce your current year tax burden. If you fund your gift with appreciated securities, you will avoid a significant amount of capital gains taxes.
More Ways You Benefit
- Gift annuities can benefit up to two people, making them an ideal way to provide financial security for a spouse or other loved one.
- Avoid capital gains taxes when you use appreciated stock to fund your gift annuity.
- If you don’t need the income immediately, you can schedule payments to begin at least one year after your donation. The longer the deferral period, the higher your payment rate.
Please contact us for additional information on charitable gift annuities or to chat more about the personal benefits of creating an annuity with Project HOPE.
Gifts that make an impact now
In addition to wills, beneficiary designations, and gift annuities, there are a number of other smart ways to make a lasting impact at Project HOPE and that will help families and communities around the world grow healthier and stronger.
Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA
You can transfer funds from your IRA directly to Project HOPE and avoid paying taxes on the withdrawal. This is an effective way to have an immediate impact on Project HOPE’s lifesaving work.
Here’s how it works:
- You must be 70 ½ or older.
- An individual may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year and a married couple may give up to $200,000 (to all charities).
- Your gift must be transferred directly from your IRA account to Project HOPE.
- Your gift is a transfer of funds from your IRA to Project HOPE, so while you do not receive a charitable deduction, it does not create taxable income for you.
- If you are at least 72, the transfer of funds can count towards your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA.*
*After you turn 72, you must take an RMD from your IRA. Many supporters like to donate all or a part of their RMD to Project HOPE through a qualified charitable distribution.
Please contact us if you’re interested in making a qualified charitable distribution to support Project HOPE and would like a sample letter for your IRA administrator to facilitate the transfer.
Note: We must receive your gift by Dec. 31 for your donation to qualify this year. If you have check-writing privileges on your IRA account, please mail your check by Dec. 15 in order to give us time to process your gift before the end of the year.
A Gift from Your Donor Advised Fund
Did you know that Project HOPE sponsors its own donor advised fund, allowing you to manage your giving in a simple, flexible, and tax-efficient way? You can recommend charitable grants over time exclusively to Project HOPE — or to Project HOPE and other charities simultaneously.
