Sharing Diabetes Program Success at International Diabetes Federation Congress
Project HOPE’s experts in chronic disease programming joined the global diabetes community for the International Diabetes Federation Congress 2017 in Abu Dhabi, UAE in early December. The scientific program addresses the latest developments in diabetes clinical practice, management, education, prevalence and public health issues. With 330 top-level speakers and 1000 poster presentations, the IDF 2017 Congress provided the thousands of delegates with an invaluable learning experience and opportunity to share best practices.
The Project HOPE team presented two posters, Improving Health Outcomes for Diabetes Patients in Mexico through Self-Management Education focusing on HOPE’s successful patient-centered “5 Steps to Self-Care” program in Mexico and Outreach and Optimizing Health Workers Counselling Skills for Prevention and Better Management of Diabetes and Patient Networks centering on HOPE’s capacity building Project UDAY in India.
“Delegates at the conference were very interested in our self-management program in Mexico which lowered A1C levels in 85% of the patients in just a 12 week period,” said Barbara Smith, MPH, Project HOPE’s program officer, NCDs.
For more than a decade, Project HOPE has been addressing the rapidly growing risks of chronic disease worldwide—especially, diabetes. Participating in conferences such as the bi-annual International Diabetes Federation Congress allows HOPE’s expert team to share successes, discuss challenges and collaborate with peers to ensure healthier outcomes for all.
