Respiratory Diseases
Project HOPE builds the capacity of local health care workers and health facilities to prevent premature deaths caused by respiratory diseases.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly four million people die from respiratory diseases every year, including chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) and asthma. Respiratory diseases have major adverse effects on the quality of life of individuals and often lead to premature death.
Project HOPE began working to fight respiratory disease in 2010 with a tobacco cessation program in Egypt and expanded to China in 2015. Our programs focus on increasing early detection, community awareness, and access to treatment.
Our key goals include:
- Increasing the availability of essential equipment to enable health care workers to effectively diagnose and manage respiratory disease.
- Improving the capacity and effectiveness of health care workers to treat respiratory disease detection and treatment through in-person and online training platforms.
- Strengthening public awareness and prevention of chronic respiratory diseases.
- Promoting policies that support sustainable changes to prevent, manage, and treat respiratory disease.
