Celebrates Inaugural National Day of Giving by Aiming for 100% Employee Participation
Global NGO Project HOPE is part of the inaugural #GivingTuesday, a nationwide movement that harnesses the power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday has already inspired over 1,400 organizations and people in all 50 U.S. states and around the world to take collaborative action. Project HOPE aims to achieve 100% employee participation with events at its headquarters in Millwood, VA and an appeal to its faithful followers and donors to make a donation to support HOPE’s health education and humanitarian assistance programs worldwide.
Scheduled for November 27, 2012 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – and the Day after the famed “Black Friday and “Cyber Monday” shopping days, #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create an opening day for giving.
“Project HOPE employees, volunteers and supporters are embracing this very special day. Our youngest donor, Taylor Vaughn, is reaching out to children’s toy companies, book publishers and entertainment companies requesting cash and in-kind donations for the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center. Taylor will be spreading the word about the SCMC and the lifesaving heart surgeries that the hospital performs to her sixth grade class and Girl Scout troop,” said John P. Howe III, M.D., President and CEO of Project HOPE.
Currently, more than 1,400 corporate and nonprofit organizations have committed to participate in the initiative. #GivingTuesday is endorsed by Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, Dorothy A. Johnson Center on Philanthropy, Giving Institute, Giving USA Foundation and InterAction. Charity Navigator and GuideStar are serving as Charity Advisors. VolunteerMatch is a volunteer advisor to #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate and provide incentives to give. It will culminate with a national day of giving on November 27, 2012. This first-of-its-kind effort harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners— charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays that is dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping.
