Project HOPE Offers Humanitarian Response and Disaster Training
HOPE is offering a comprehensive Humanitarian & Disaster Response Simulation Training, April 5-8, 2018 for both new and experienced humanitarian workers seeking to improve their capabilities in the field.

Project HOPE, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, Massachusetts General Hospital’s Global Health division, and Humanitarian U of Canada, is offering a comprehensive Humanitarian & Disaster Response Simulation Training, April 5-8, 2018 for both new and experienced humanitarian workers seeking to improve their capabilities in the field.
The training will simulate a complex humanitarian emergency that requires a comprehensive understanding of war, natural disasters and forced displacement, and the impact of cultural contexts on the affected populations. Participants will be immersed in the simulation for the whole weekend, working in multidisciplinary, NGO-based teams, each tasked with a series of activities serving the impacted populations. The training will commence at Johns Hopkins campus in Baltimore with a day of classroom learning and deployment preparation, before participants are transported to Project HOPE’s Carter Hall Campus for the in-country simulation.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) estimates that 135.7 million people will require humanitarian aid in 2018.
“NGOs need trained responders to handle both ongoing and unforeseen crises,” said Rabih Torbay, President of Project HOPE. “Project HOPE and our simulation partners have a long history of training health workers, responding to humanitarian crises, and aiding those most in need. Our goal is to train a global humanitarian response workforce that will be better able to respond to increasingly complex crises,” he said.
The inaugural training will be in English, and there are plans to offer the training in other languages and locations around the world.

The cost for participation is $1,950 per registrant and includes all expenses during the training, including transportation from Baltimore, MD to Project HOPE’s campus in Millwood, VA and back.
