Statement from Executive Vice President of Global Health Chris Skopec

“Project HOPE was deeply saddened to see the massive explosion near central Beirut yesterday, and our hearts are with all who lost loved ones as well as those who were injured.
We immediately activated our emergency response team, which is in close contact with local health officials and relief organizations. We are deploying a team lead to Beirut now to help coordinate deliveries of urgently needed medical supplies, protective gear, and other assistance and support that may be requested.
Lebanon continues to host the largest refugee population per capita in the world, and it was already struggling with a crippling economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic before this tragic blast. An immediate large-scale international response effort is needed to help the people of Lebanon in their time of need.
Project HOPE stands with the Lebanese people, and we will work to provide relief to those affected by the explosion as long as it is needed.”
