Project HOPE celebrates volunteers
National Volunteer Week was April 15 through 21, and Project HOPE on April 20 celebrated the volunteers who promote global health and respond to disasters around the world.
Project HOPE Names Merck Corporate Volunteer of the Year
Volunteers are often the unsung heroes of the quest to promote global health and respond to disasters, but without their contributions, millions of people in some of the world’s most challenged regions would be worse off. In recognition of this crucial role, Project HOPE honored Jahn Moeller, a registered nurse from Queensland, Australia, as Volunteer of the Year, and Merck, as Corporate Partner Volunteer of the Year, celebrating a six-decades long partnership that has built health capacity worldwide.
A mission of Mercy sets sail for the Indian Ocean
The Mercy will act as the flagship for the annual “Pacific Partnership” mission, a five-month goodwill tour that’s slated to unite the hospital ship with its sidekick, the Singapore-based fast transport Falls River — plus more than 800 military and civilian personnel from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Peru and Japan and nongovernmental organizations like Project Hope, Hope Worldwide and Project Handclasp.

On Nov. 29, the Women’s Division for Project Hope held their annual Holiday Luncheon at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills. Proceeds from the event benefited the Women’s Division branch of Project HOPE.
A Great-Grandmother, A Great Giver
Rather than spending money on Mother’s Day cards that would likely end up buried in a drawer, Virginia decided to donate $10 on behalf of each woman she would usually send a card to. Virginia’s thoughtful act enables Project HOPE to provide Kangaroo Mother Care wraps for moms and special health care worker training, which support the critical, lifesaving bonding between mothers and newborns immediately after birth.
