Taking Nurse Education to the Next Level in China

As our small group of university administrators, professors, students and local media celebrated the opening of the Simulation Laboratory at the Wuhan University School of Nursing, our voices were heard across the great nation of China… literally!
As we cut the ribbon on this leading-edge laboratory, nursing officials and students from five locations across the country joined in the celebration virtually through the e-learning channels that will be used to educate China’s next generation of nurses.
The brainchild of Project HOPE and Wuhan University, the distance e-learning technology will be able to reach more than 7,000 nursing students across China. In addition to learning virtually, students also will be able to apply their new skills in a simulation lab.
While Project HOPE and Wuhan University created the teaching model, it has come to fruition through the generosity of the American people. The American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program, a department within the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), provided $2.7 million to fund the lab.
In the ten years Project HOPE and Wuhan University have collaborated in the School of Nursing, nearly 350 nursing students have graduated. Now with this new technology, more nursing students will have access to innovative teachers and training capabilities, which will ultimately result in better patient care throughout China.
