November 9, 2016 Typhoon Haiyan brought destruction to the Philippines

It’s been three years since Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Philippines on Nov. 8, 2013. The monster storm – one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded – destroyed everything in its path. More than 6,000 died. 28,626 were injured. 4.1 million lost their homes.

Project HOPE offered immediate support.

In the seven months following the typhoon, Project HOPE sent more than 80 medical volunteers to badly damaged sites, rebuilding damaged health infrastructure and strengthening health systems by hiring Filipino health professionals.
In 2014, Project HOPE delivered 48,000 vaccines to protect against pneumonia. Later that same year, more than 110,000 patients were inoculated with the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine.
And in 2015, HOPE launched a three-year program designed to train maternity staff in the prevention of post-partum hemorrhage in seven targeted private hospitals.

Since November 2013, HOPE has shipped more than $24 million of medicines, vaccines and medical supplies, helping more than 270,000 patients.

Project HOPE has continued to help rebuild a health system that was compromised by disaster with a primary goal of improving community access to quality maternal and child health services for vulnerable populations within the Philippines.
