Here are just some of the people who inspire us and prove that anyone has the power to be a force for hope — and change — in their community.
In rural Indonesia, health services are often too expensive or too far away. Fitrotful took a Project HOPE training on neonatal asphyxia care. Her skills were put to the test when a mother rushed into the clinic in the midst of delivering a baby with asphyxia. Thanks to her training, Fitrotful was ready.
When Cristina Reyes saw how COVID-19 had devastated India, she was moved to do something about it. Now she is one of hundreds of Twitch streamers who are using their streams to raise money for Project HOPE.
Aftab is a community health worker in Texas, helping combat vaccine misinformation, answer people’s questions, and register people for COVID-19 vaccines. Thanks to community health workers like him, Project HOPE is helping thousands of people in Houston and the Rio Grande Valley get vaccinated.
Just a few minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border, Lesly helps operate a mobile clinic that provides primary care and vaccines for people outside the formal health care system. Safety-net clinics like hers play a crucial role in reaching uninsured, undocumented, and low-income communities.
Lisa Bartleson is one of dozens of Project HOPE medical volunteers who deployed to hard-hit health systems around the U.S. Spending six weeks in a critical COVID ward in Navajo Nation taught her one thing: respect for the health care workers and patients who found the will to keep fighting.
When the pandemic hit and hope seemed hard to find, Ben Higgins began having conversations with thought leaders from diverse backgrounds to determine if hope still triumphs in the face of life’s biggest challenges. Now a member of our Board of Directors, Ben features these conversations on his podcast “Hope Still Wins,” including a recent interview with Project HOPE CEO and President, Rabih Torbay.
With support from AstraZeneca, Project HOPE has helped dozens of young people in Mexico gain expertise in the prevention of COVID-19 and spread critical public health information to their peers. That opportunity is especially powerful for young women like Veronica, who are using it as a platform to raise their voice for change in their communities.
When TJ Kim’s school shut down during the pandemic, he couldn’t stand by and do nothing. Just 17, he launched Operation SOS and took to the skies, flying PPE into hard-hit health systems across the U.S. and supporting Project HOPE along the way.
