From NCDs to COVID-19, Boston Scientific Support Spans Two Decades
COVID-19 is unlike any public health crisis we’ve ever seen, but it’s only one of many threats to global health. Even amid a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, other threats are lurking — especially noncommunicable diseases, which are the leading cause of death worldwide.
Boston Scientific has worked with Project HOPE for more than 20 years, primarily focused on improving community health by combatting noncommunicable disease. They have supported Project HOPE’s work in South Africa, India, and Colombia and helped us respond to disasters in the Bahamas, Haiti, Ecuador, and Sierra Leone.
Most recently, Boston Scientific engaged their employees to support Project HOPE’s global COVID-19 response and together gave nearly $80,000 through the Boston Scientific Matching Gifts Program.
“Boston Scientific has been a wonderful partner for Project HOPE and has a long history of combating noncommunicable diseases and improving community health around the world,” said Rabih Torbay, Project HOPE president and CEO. “NCDs are the leading cause of death worldwide, and their most recent grant supporting our NCD work in Colombia will allow Project HOPE to train even more health care workers and save more lives. Boston Scientific’s employee giving for Project HOPE’s global COVID-19 response will also help ensure that more health care workers on the front lines receive the PPE and training they desperately need.

In addition to the company’s recent support, Boston Scientific employees also participated in packing events this year for local organizations in their communities, packing a total of over 34,000 kits that provided STEM activities, health and wellness essentials, snacks, and other resources for populations in need across the globe.
“We looked to Project HOPE for our COVID-19 Matching Gift Campaign because of our strong track record of making an impact together,” said Camille Chang Gilmore, Vice President of Human Resources and Global Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at Boston Scientific. “We appreciate that they start by listening to local communities to understand the needs, then work together to help solve the most pressing issues in creative ways. During COVID-19 we were impressed by their quick response to deliver PPE to healthcare workers around the globe.”
