Project HOPE donates medical equipment to hospital affected by floods in Henan Province, China

With funding valuing over $430,000 from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), Project HOPE was able to procure and replace hospital equipment damaged from the flooding and support the local hospitals and healthcare system recovery from the flooding.

Henan Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital, one of hospitals affected by the flooding, is the local medical center for women and children who seek medical service in Henan Province where there is a total population of 66 million women and children. Complicated cases need to be transferred by ambulance from the county-level hospitals in Henan Province to this hospital.

Project HOPE assessed the needs from the hospital and the patients and donated an ultrasound and three ambulances to the hospital. Since the donation of the ultrasound in October 2021, more than 5,500 pregnant women have benefited from its use. The ambulances were donated in July 2022 and at least 120 patients are estimated to be transferred monthly.

In addition, Project HOPE will establish an updated emergency management program in the local hospitals to mitigate the impact of future disasters. This program will include helping all Henan provincial hospitals to develop, maintain, and test updated emergency management initiatives. It will also provide leadership training and drills in the areas of hospital incident command systems (HICS), emergency management, and provide guidance for further mitigation strategies.
