25 New Ambulances Head to Ukraine’s Most Impacted Areas
For thousands of residents in frontline oblasts across Ukraine, where roads are often damaged, and the threat of attacks complicates every response by medical teams, the reliable operation of emergency medical services means timely access to life-saving care. In such conditions, new and fully equipped ambulances become a matter of life and death.
Project HOPE, in partnership with the U.S. Government and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, has delivered 25 new Type C ambulances, strengthening emergency medical services systems in frontline oblasts.
In the coming days, these ambulances will be deployed to Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Odesa oblasts to ensure access to medical care in the most remote and vulnerable communities.
Loaded with modern medical equipment, these ambulances will help save lives during transport, while medical teams will also receive protective equipment, including body armor and ballistic helmets.
During the ceremonial handover of the ambulances in Kyiv, Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine a.i., Ambassador Julie S. Davis emphasized that this transfer reflects the strength of cooperation between American organizations, Ukrainian institutions, and the dedicated professionals who selflessly serve across Ukraine.
“This is not just about Ukraine, it’s about America, too. When we help Ukraine stay strong, defend its people, and maintain stability, we help end this war. So, America will continue to work with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health and with organizations like Project HOPE to ensure that Ukrainians receive the care they need today while building a stronger, more resilient future,” Ambassador Julie S. Davis said.
Ukraine’s Health Minister Viktor Liashko emphasized the critical role of such support for the country’s health care system.
“The 25 ambulances that Ukraine receives today are an important reinforcement of the emergency medical system, especially for regions operating under the most difficult conditions. Each new ambulance means the ability to reach patients faster, provide care already on the way, and save lives,” Viktor Liashko noted.
Project HOPE CEO Rabih Torbay and EACAP Program Director Caine Cortellino stressed the importance of this support for strengthening the health care system and ensuring timely emergency response in frontline areas.
“As an organization, we work shoulder to shoulder with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. We supported it before, we support it now, and we will continue to support it in the future. And we will not leave Ukraine until our work here is done,” emphasized Rabih Torbay.
“Our Ukrainian emergency medical colleagues are working in extremely difficult conditions that few in the world have ever experienced, and yet they continue responding to calls and saving lives. It is an honor to support you,” Caine Cortellino said.
The Project HOPE team is proud of this important achievement and continues working in Ukraine to strengthen the health care system during one of the country’s most challenging times.
