Medical Supply Chain
Supporting sustainable access to quality health care through supply chain management and last-mile distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies
Our Approach
Across the globe, health workers face significant barriers in accessing the medications and medical supplies they need to save lives.
In such an interconnected world, it is unacceptable that the global medical supply chain remains a major contributor to global health inequities.
Project HOPE is a founding member of the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD), a member of the World Health Organization’s Global Health Cluster, and has decades of experience securing access to crucial medical supply chains in the midst of conflict, war, disease outbreaks, and pandemics.
Around the world, our teams:
- Navigate supply chain disruptions, whether caused by extreme weather, disaster, conflict, or global shortages
- Coordinate with our global network of manufacturers and freight forwarders to get medical supplies in the hands of health workers when they are needed the most
- Transport medical equipment and trauma supplies to the front lines of the world’s most devasting conflicts
- Equip frontline health workers and first responders with personal protective equipment (PPE) during infectious disease outbreaks
- Support cold chain delivery of insulin, vaccines, and other critical medications where supply lines have been disrupted
- Distribute lifesaving medications to communities affected by rapid onset emergencies and disasters
- Collaborate with corporate partners and health officials to strengthen health systems through donation programs that fill gaps in essential drug lists
The Context
To ensure integrity in our work, Project HOPE takes a needs-based approach in its medical supply programs. Our teams conduct on-the-ground assessments and coordinate with trusted health authorities to identify what medicines and supplies are most needed.
Across all our programs, we are giving health workers the tools and resources they need to care for their communities and ensure their own safety. We adhere to the most stringent standards for quality control when it comes to the handling, storage, transportation, and donation of medical goods.
The vast majority of medical supplies we use in our programming are donated by the manufacturers, allowing Project HOPE to maximize the impact of our work in the most cost-effective manner.
