Project HOPE Calls for Immediate Approval of Supplementary Aid for Global Humanitarian Assistance

Washington, DC (November 30, 2023) – Project HOPE urges Congress to approve the White House’s request for more than $10 billion in supplementary funding for global humanitarian assistance, including to Gaza, Israel, Haiti, and Ukraine before the end of 2023.

Around the globe, 360 million people rely on humanitarian assistance. As communities begin to face harsh winter conditions, more people will need access to food, clean water, shelter, and medical care. Humanitarian organizations need robust funding to meet the growing needs, this includes improving health facilities, delivering medical supplies, and protecting and training frontline health workers and clinicians.

“Now is not the time for the U.S. to shirk from its longstanding legacy in providing humanitarian assistance to all people in deepest need across the globe,” said Jed Meline, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Project HOPE. “This is a historic moment in time and the world looks to the U.S. to continue its leadership in humanitarian aid.”

Project HOPE is actively responding to health and humanitarian crises in Gaza, Israel, Haiti, Ukraine, and beyond. The supplemental funding would ensure that NGOs, national governments, and multilateral organizations have sufficient resources to assist people facing compounding crises.

Project HOPE advocates for the establishment of necessary pathways for aid distribution and we urge Congress to ensure the allocation of resources for humanitarian assistance within the regular FY24 appropriations. Sustained aid will contribute to addressing the health and humanitarian needs of communities in crisis worldwide, while also reinforcing U.S. national security goals.
