Gaza Doctor Recognized as InterAction’s Humanitarian of the Year
Project HOPE’s Program Manager in Gaza, Dr. Mithqal Abutaha, has been awarded the 2025 Humanitarian of the Year award from InterAction.
InterAction is the largest U.S.-based alliance of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and partners who collectively mobilize to serve vulnerable communities around the world. Each year, InterAction gathers to award members who demonstrate exceptional work in the humanitarian sector.
In his role leading Project HOPE’s health and humanitarian programs in Gaza, Dr. Mithqal works tirelessly to ensure lifesaving care continues despite limited supplies, relentless bombardment, overwhelming need, and the immense toll the conflict has on both staff and patients. His leadership and unshakeable commitment embody the courage required to deliver humanitarian aid in one of the most dangerous environments in the world today. Even when aid is limited – and Dr. Mithqal and the team contend with the same hunger, grief, and displacement as their patients – their unwavering dedication to our work is a profound example of their commitment to humanity.
Project HOPE is proud of the work that Dr. Abutaha and his team have been able to provide in Gaza and continue to do for those in need.
