The Context
Project HOPE began working in Egypt in 1975 at the request of the Egyptian First Lady Jehan Sadat, helping build the nation’s health workforce, developing nursing education programs and health worker trainings, and improving patient care for rare and noncommunicable diseases. In the early 2000’s, we helped expand nursing education and training in Oman and Jordan and led the opening of the Basrah Children’s Specialty Hospital for pediatric oncology in Iraq.
We’ve also provided humanitarian aid support for Syrian refugees in Jordan, Iraq, Türkiye, and Lebanon. Recently, our teams have responded to multiple disasters and humanitarian disasters, including the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict; the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria, and Morocco; medical supply shortages after changes in Syria’s government in 2024, and the 2020 port explosion in Lebanon.
