Responding in Lebanon & Monitoring Impacts on Civilians in Iran and Surrounding Region

Project HOPE is responding to the impacts of the escalating conflict in Lebanon and continuing to assess the greatest needs through the Middle East region, with deep concern for the safety and well-being of civilians. In Lebanon, Project HOPE is on the ground supporting displaced communities impacted by airstrikes. Project HOPE has also prepositioned personnel in Iraq and is monitoring the border with Iran, building a supply chain for medical and humanitarian supplies, and connecting with local partners. Further escalation could harm more civilians, displace communities, disrupt access to health care, and restrict humanitarian access.

Project HOPE has activated an emergency response in Lebanon where airstrikes have killed civilians and drive tens of thousands from their homes. The team is distributing water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies and shelter items to displacement sites, while procuring essential medicines and medical supplies for hospitals and primary health centers. The team is also preparing to deploy and operate two mobile medical units in Beirut-Mount Lebanon and the Beqaa to provide primary healthcare consultations, basic medications, and triage and referral services.

Project HOPE team members across the region remain safe and are exercising increased caution. In Gaza, where Project HOPE provides health and humanitarian programs, all aid crossings have been closed, prohibiting the movement of personnel and supplies, and further straining the limited availability of food and medical resources and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Continued disruptions to electricity, fuel, food, medical supply chains, and health facilities across the region will have dire consequences for the most vulnerable. Project HOPE will continue coordinating closely with national authorities, local partners, and sector working groups and stands ready to support impacted communities and ensure access to lifesaving health services in line with humanitarian principles.
